New Security Technology at Dubai Airport

Dubai International Airport (DXB) is introducing next-generation security screening equipment that will allow passengers to keep laptops, tablets, and liquids inside their bags during security checks.

Technology Used:

The airport is installing HI-SCAN 6040 CTiX machines from Smiths Detection, which use 3D computed tomography (CT) scanning.

Benefits using new Technolgy :

  • Faster security checks
  • Shorter queues
  • Improved passenger experience (no need to unpack electronics and liquids)

Timeline:
Full rollout is expected by the end of 2026 across Terminals 1, 2, and 3. Currently, trials have started in Terminal 3.

Implementation:
Until all checkpoints are upgraded, passengers may still need to follow the traditional rules at some lanes.

Dubai Airports Corporation confirmed that it continues its efforts to adopt the latest technological solutions to enhance capacity and provide seamless travel experiences. It noted that, in collaboration and coordination with the General Department of Airport Security, third-generation advanced screening devices are being installed, allowing travelers to keep electronic devices and liquids inside their bags during inspections.

In detail, the Chief Operating Officer of Dubai Airports, Majid Al Joker, stated that "Dubai Airports" continues to work on increasing the capacity of Dubai International Airport without adding or constructing new spaces at the airport. He pointed out that the strategy being pursued is based on investing in the latest technological and smart solutions, with the aim of enhancing operational efficiency and improving the travel experience from the moment passengers arrive until they board the plane.

He explained to "Emirates Today" that this includes expanding the use of artificial intelligence systems and innovative digital solutions that reduce the time taken to complete travel procedures, from check-in and passport control, through security checks, and up to boarding the plane.

He mentioned that "Dubai Airports" has made significant progress on a global scale by working on improving the management of passenger flow within the airport buildings through movement tracking systems and real-time data, which helps prevent congestion and distribute passengers smoothly across various facilities, noting that these steps are part of "Dubai Airports'" commitment to providing a world-class travel experience and maintaining the emirate's leading position as a major hub for international aviation and travel.

He explained that this step aims to enhance security levels, increase the airport's capacity, and improve the flow of passenger movement by almost doubling it, in line with Dubai's status as a global hub in the aviation sector. He pointed out that the new devices are characterized by their ability to produce high-resolution 3D images, allowing travelers to keep electronic devices and liquids inside their bags during security checks, which contributes to speeding up procedures, reducing waiting times, and providing a smoother travel experience.

He explained that these technologies enable work teams to plan in advance for the operational day 24 hours ahead, by predicting flow rates, identifying peak hours and times of increased passenger numbers, which allows for the redistribution of staff, better allocation of counters, as well as making necessary shift changes according to the available data.

He revealed that there is a plan, in collaboration with "Dubai Residency," to make the red carpet available in the arrivals building (Building 3) within a month or two. He said that the expansion of this technology will increase over time, to include other areas within the airport, enhancing the travel experience and keeping pace with Dubai Airport's status as one of the most advanced and innovative airports in the world.
